The inadvertent expat blogger behind Collect Wave Shore

Hello, I am Ana
Project manager. Parent. An expat based in Lisbon, Portugal.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term contract gradually became a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Began
Moving to Portugal wasn't part of the long-range plan. Like many expat relocations, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far bigger.
The early months were demanding — new systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday tasks seemed more complicated than they needed to be.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning by doing. Yet gradually, routines settled in. We found places that fit us, connected with other families, and began building something that felt steady.
Why I Built Collect Wave Shore
The majority of information online was either corporate relocation guidance or surface-level tourism material. What was missing was an honest, day-to-day family perspective.
This site exists to bridge that gap — practical guidance drawn from real life in Portugal.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)
What this site stands for:
- Real-world experience from living in Portugal
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated whenever there is a real change
What this site is not:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- Not a sponsored review platform
- Not a generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our stay in Portugal goes on, and so does our learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I will continue to record what we find.
If you have questions about family life in Lisbon or anywhere in Portugal, please reach out.
Best regards,
Ana
